Biosafety Officer / HSE Systems Coordinator

We are currently recruiting, on behalf of our client, a Biosafety Officer / HSE Systems Coordinator for a 12-month temporary assignment based at their site in Stein, Switzerland.

This is a key role within a highly regulated scientific environment, where you will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with Swiss biosafety regulations and supporting safe operations across research and production activities.

Biosafety Officer / HSE Systems Coordinator

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the site’s biosafety management system in line with Swiss regulations (ESV, SAMV, GTG)
• Ensure compliance with Biosafety Levels 1–4 across laboratory and production areas
• Conduct risk assessments related to biological agents and GMOs, defining appropriate containment measures
• Act as the main point of contact with authorities (FOEN and cantonal bodies)
• Prepare and submit regulatory notifications and permit applications
• Monitor regulatory changes and ensure ongoing compliance
• Deliver biosafety training programs to employees
• Perform inspections and audits, including corrective action follow-up
• Provide expert guidance to cross-functional teams (R&D, production, site management)

Your Profile

• MSc or PhD in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field
• Several years of hands-on experience working with biological agents in a regulated environment
• Strong expertise in Swiss biosafety regulations (ESV, SAMV, GTG)
• Proven experience in regulatory affairs and interaction with authorities
• Solid understanding of biosafety levels (BSL 1–4) and risk assessment methodologies
• Experience in GMP/GLP environments is an advantage
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and advise stakeholders
• Autonomous, structured, and proactive mindset
• Fluent in German (mandatory) and proficiency in English required
