MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE


Encouraging and supporting students to enjoy and make the most of the learning opportunities offered by the school and, specifically, to teach English language and literature courses to Secondary students. The role includes the possibility of becoming a homeroom advisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


The English teacher will:

  • Promote the school-s mission and vision by assisting students to discover and develop individual strengths, make powerful, life-long global connections, and be their best selves.
  • Contribute to the creation of a caring and inclusive learning environment in which students can flourish, ensuring that each student-s health and well-being are given the necessary priority.
  • Use and develop the existing resources to teach all or some of the following: Middle School Secondaire, High School, IGCSE, IB English classes.
  • Carry out other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED


  • Relevant university degree and teaching qualification.
  • Master-s degree in a suitable area of pedagogy preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


  • Teaching English Language and Literature in a Secondary setting.
  • Meeting the needs of students with diagnosed learning differences in the classroom.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED


  • Teaching Middle School and/or High School age students.
  • IGCSE or IB experience.
  • Teaching EAL students.
  • Experience as a homeroom advisor.
  • Teaching in an international school setting.

 

PRIOR SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE


  • English mother tongue.
  • Ability to use and integrate Educational Technology as a tool to enhance learning in the curriculum.
  • Good rapport with students; firm but empathetic and fair.
  • Good organisational skills, evidenced by meeting the requirements of external examination boards.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Effective differentiation strategies.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION


It is important that the post holder is always aware of Child Protection guidelines and observes a professional distance from students whilst still developing effective working and caring relationships. You understand and embrace the importance of diversity and inclusion and stand against discrimination in any form. Background investigations and reference checks for the past ten years will be conducted during the selection process.
